Plan Routes & Assign Jobs

Plan Routes & Assign Jobs

The Route Planning feature enables users to efficiently create, assign, and manage job routes for drivers. From the route listing page, users can create a new route plan by selecting a driver and assigning one or more work orders. The system automatically generates an optimised route once the start and end locations are defined. After reviewing the generated route, users can save the plan with a name and description.

Each route follows a structured lifecycle:

  • Draft – Route can be edited, and driver or job assignments can be modified.
  • In Progress – Route is active; editing and deletion are restricted.
  • Completed – Route is finalised and locked to maintain data integrity.

This feature ensures controlled route execution, improves operational visibility, and prevents unauthorised changes once a route is underway or completed.

Overview

The Route Planning module in DreamzFSM allows managers to assign optimised job routes to drivers, track route progress through defined lifecycle stages, and maintain a clear record of all completed routes. This improves operational efficiency and ensures accountability across all field service activities.

Tips for Planning Routes & Assigning Jobs

  • Always verify the Start and End Point Addresses before generating a route to ensure the system produces an accurate and optimised plan.
  • Use the Draft status to review and adjust driver assignments and job selections before activating a route — changes cannot be made once the route is set to In Progress.
  • Assign multiple work orders to a single route where possible to maximise driver efficiency and reduce travel time between jobs.
  • Use the View icon regularly to monitor the route map and current status, keeping dispatchers informed of field progress in real time.
  • Once a route is marked as Completed, it is locked for data integrity — ensure all details are accurate before finalising.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I assign multiple work orders to a single route plan?
Yes. When creating a route plan, you can select one or multiple work orders from the available list to assign to the driver’s route.

Can I edit a route plan after it has been saved?
Yes, but only while the route is in Draft status. Once the route is set to In Progress or Completed, editing and deletion are restricted to maintain data integrity.

What happens when a route is set to In Progress?
Once a route is set to In Progress, the Edit and Delete options are disabled. Only the View option remains available, allowing you to monitor the route without making changes.

Can I change the driver assigned to a route after it has started?
No. Driver assignments can only be modified while the route is in Draft status. Once the route is In Progress, driver and job assignments are locked.

What does the Completed status mean for a route plan?
A Completed route is fully finalised and locked. It cannot be edited or deleted, and only the View icon remains available on the listing page to maintain a permanent record of the route.
