How to Manage The Maintenance Types?

Manage Maintenance Types

Maintenance types in DreamzCMMS define the classification of work orders — such as corrective, preventive, or other custom categories. Setting up maintenance types helps you organize work orders more effectively and track maintenance activities by type.

Overview

Maintenance types allow you to categorize work orders based on the nature of the maintenance task. For example, you might have types such as Routine, Emergency, Inspection, or Repair. This classification helps in filtering, reporting, and automating workflows tied to different maintenance strategies.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you have access to Settings in DreamzCMMS.

  • Know the maintenance types you want to define (e.g., name, description, color coding).

How to Manage Maintenance Types

Step 1 — Open Settings

From the left-hand navigation menu, click Settings to expand configuration options.

Step 2 — Go to Maintenance Type Management

Under the Maintenance section, select Maintenance Type Management. This opens the maintenance type list and creation screen.

Step 3 — Enter Maintenance Type Details

Complete the fields to define a new maintenance type:

  1. Code — Enter a short identifier (recommended: 3 characters) that shows up in reports and filters.

  2. Name — Type a descriptive name for the maintenance type.

  3. Checkbox — Tick the box if this entry should be treated as a maintenance type; uncheck for other classifications.

  4. Description — Add any details that explain the purpose or use of this maintenance type.

  5. Company (optional) — Select a company if this maintenance type is specific to one entity.

  6. User — Type at least 3 characters of a user’s name to grant access to the maintenance type.

  7. Color Code — Choose a color to visually distinguish this maintenance type in lists and dashboards.

Tip: From the Work Orders page, you can quickly add a new maintenance type using the + icon without navigating to Settings.

Save the Maintenance Type

Once all details are entered, click Save to add the maintenance type to the system. The new type will now be available in dropdowns when creating or editing work orders.

After Saving — What’s Next?

After creating maintenance types, you can:

  • Assign them to future work orders for better categorization.

  • Use filters by maintenance type to generate reports and dashboards.

  • Manage or edit maintenance types as processes evolve.

Best Practices

  • Use descriptive names and unique codes to avoid confusion in reports.

  • Apply color coding consistently across maintenance types.

  • Limit access to users who manage maintenance standards or workflows.
